Supergroup The Mets brings pure, unplanned fun to Indonesia's music scene. The identity of their work is joyful spontaneity — a rock 'n' roll side project born not from a career plan but from love of a band, pulling together members of some of Indonesia's most respected acts: Iga Massardi of Barasuara, Randy Danistha of Nidji, PM Mulyadi of The Brandals, J. Alfredo of Romantic Echoes, Surya Fikri of The Panturas, and Fadli Fikriawan of .Feast. What makes The Mets distinctive is their origin story: the group first formed in 2023 simply to celebrate The Strokes coming to Indonesia, playing a tribute gig full of Strokes covers, before the friendship spilled over into something of their own.
The Mets' credibility comes precisely from how little pressure they put on it. Their debut original single "Intensi," released in 2024, came together in almost a single sitting — Randy building a drum loop, Iga tracking a guitar-and-bass demo, and the song falling into place before anyone overthought it, with lyrics dreamed up on the spot around a late-night bar scene reminiscent of the film Past Lives. The Strokes' fingerprints are still faintly there, but each member folds in their own references, and the result comes out simpler and calmer than the music they usually make. However, The Mets refuse to treat this as another obligation stacked on their main bands — allowing the songs to arrive whenever they naturally do, and keeping the whole thing loose enough that even the possibility of one great album and nothing more feels like a win.
