Alternative band Milledenials brings a wall of raw feeling to today's popular music scene. The identity of their work is emogaze — a sound that welds the emotional honesty of emo to the blurred, enveloping haze of shoegaze, with just enough pop to pull you in. Fronted by vocalist Nadya Narita, the Denpasar five-piece has turned that blend into something that captures both nostalgia and the search for identity in the digital age. What makes Milledenials distinctive is how far that sound has traveled: from a beach island in Bali to some of the biggest stages in the world.
Milledenials formed in Denpasar in 2020, starting as a casual, just-for-fun project that only turned serious once the positive feedback started rolling in. Their music leans into fast-tempo modern shoegaze laced with emo-core, and their early work wore its heart on its sleeve — the mini-album 5 Stages of Doomed Romance drew from heartbreak, while the 2021 single "Permanent Fling" told a story about being friend-zoned. Now, Milledenials is involved in various projects. Their releases, such as the 2023 EP Precious Me / Feel Any Pain and the 2025 mini-album It's Terrifying and It's a Shame, pair swirling guitars with unguarded lyrics about feeling stuck, tired, and hoping for someone to pull you out. Their reach grew through relentless touring, including the fourteen-city Youth Never Left Tour across Java, and then it went global: they played the India Music Festival in New Delhi, became the third Indonesian act ever to appear at Primavera when they took the stage at Primavera a la Ciutat 2025 in Barcelona, and stood as the only Indonesian representative at Korea's Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival 2025, sharing a lineup with names like Pulp and Little Simz.
